As much as LinkedIn may want you to believe that it’s the same as networking…
…it is not.
LinkedIn is an online ‘destination’ where professionals list their work, their accomplishments, and their product (even if the product is them).
LinkedIn may have value for some.
But being loosely connected to 600 people or even 600,000 is not the same as building a strong personal network.
Successful networking is building a relationship. It’s sharing information for no other reason than it could help someone else.
At best, LinkedIn is a worthwhile tool for making a connection to initiate a professional relationship.
LinkedIn is a marketplace. Not a personal network.
Don’t confuse the two.
