Gurus sell books by challenging us to change the status quo.
They paint a rosy picture of the company falling into lockstep behind the creative thinker and marching into the promise land of riches and fame.
To sell books the gurus gloss over the annoying part.
The status quo will resist.
The status quo likes things the way they are.
Not because they particularly enjoy the way it is or they are complacent or they lack vision.
(Although that is often the case).
They like it the way it is because they created the way it is.
When you present a better way be ready for some serious push back.
The status quo may argue.
They may blame.
They may threaten.
Because while everyone wants better…
No one wants change.
