Resumes and Cover letters – It’s Personal

Make your resume personal. Write a resume with a person in mind – not a job or a company. Create a new resume for each job opportunity. If you state an objective be specific. Saying that you want a job that allows you to apply your creative skills is a waste of space and insulting to the recruiter.

Of course you want the opportunity to add value and to be creative. Same goes for the “references upon request” line. Of course you’ll provide references! Instead use the space to convince the recruiter you’re worthy of an interview.
The cover letter is the opportunity to convince the recruiter you are worthy of their time. Let your personality shine. The cover letter is the intro to your resume. Your resume gets the interview. The interview snags the gig.
