More Evidence For Being Nice

by - m on 01/24/2011

One of the big media stories over the weekend was Keith Olbermann’s abrupt departure from MSNBC.

What caused the split?

Mr. Olbermann hosted a wildly successful program.
He is extremely talented.
He made tons of money for himself and for his former employer.

But as Paul Farhi pointed out in an article in this past Saturday’s Washington Post

“For all his skill as a broadcaster and his undisputed value to the network, the Olbermann quality that appeared suddenly most relevant was this:
He can be difficult to work with.”

As you begin your career remember that being ‘the best’ at what you do isn’t enough.

Once again. All things being equal – “nice” trumps “brilliant”.
