Keith Richards On Leadership

by - m on 12/01/2011

I’m reading Keith Richards’ autobiography Life and was struck by his description of how a great song sometimes comes about.

Perhaps it’s a stretch, but I think there are some leadership comparisons.

To paraphrase…

The skill is not to interfere too much. Ignore intelligence. Ignore everything. Just follow where it takes you. People lead themselves. You’re just the conveyor.

That doesn’t mean that you don’t work hard or that you should disregard your experience, training, and education.

But sometimes it just happens and you don’t fully understand how.

“Just follow where it takes you.”
