Human Shields

It’s your job as a leader is to serve as human shield…

  • Get folks out of un-necessary meetings – and stop holding them.
  • Be willing to accept that you do not have all the answers – invite colleagues to provide their own solutions.
  • Promote taking a risk – and be aware of and communicate the cost of failure.

As Bob Sutton writes in Good Boss, Bad Boss:

“Your job as a boss isn’t just to protect employees from other idiots — it is also to protect them your own idiocy.”
