Be Happy In Your Work

A recent Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index reports that Americans are less happy at work than ever before.
So what you ask?  What does happiness have to do with it? People should be happy that they have a job.
Just a few months ago many managers may have agreed.
Today, not so much.
Happiness at work may not seem to score large in the grand scheme of employment, but it can be the difference between the success or failure of a business. Unhappy employees don’t show up and performance suffers.
When performance drops so do profits.
As managers we can help to ensure that our staff is happily engaged. We can praise good work. We can remove obstacles and petty annoyances. We can help folks make progress toward the company’s goals – and theirs.
People want to feel that what they are doing matters – that they are making a difference.
As leaders we have the single largest effect on employee engagement.
Of course that means we too must be engaged.
