Be Careful Out There

I’ve been re-reading some of my books on business. I admire all of these authors. Just be careful following their advice. Especially the authors who write about challenging the status quo. Or testing bad bosses. Or ignoring convention wisdom.

Here’s why.
  • The status quo like it that way.
  • Bad bosses don’t realize they are bad bosses.
  • The folks who follow conventional wisdom probably created the wisdom in the first place.
  • It’s human nature to see ourselves as part of the solution – not part of the problem – especially those in charge.
Tom Peters states in Re-Imagine! that it’s easier to destroy a bad company than it is to change it…
It’s been my experience that it’s better still to establish your own territory, surround yourself with allies and like-minded people, ignore what’s going on around you, and create your own mission.
